Which most people respected but there were people who didn't trust their opinion as a doctor. They we're unable to buy their own home so they rented from a nice elderly couple. A couple of years after settling into their job and life, they had actively begun to practice taxidermy. They were a novice but as they had shown time and again that they were a quick learner.
One particularly rainy evening, however, Shan was driving home at a late hour. Exhausted and frustrated from many hours of work, led to them accidentally hitting a pedestrian with their car. They got out of their car thinking they could help the man but it was too late.
In a panic, they drag the body into the car. Uncertain of what they should do, Shan took the body home and hid the body in their garage.
As their adrenaline drained from their body, the weight of what they did began to set in. The few days that went by after that felt like weeks, a week felt like a month. It was as the body had begun to decay, that they had an awful idea.
As soon as the thought entered their mind they dismissed it, but the thought kept coming back. It felt as though something was gnawing at the back of their brain, and a timer was ticking down as the body had already begun to actively decay.
They dismembered and disposed of the body, and the stress of not knowing what to do dissipated. Shan thought they could go back to their normal life. And they did, for a while. That is until, one night while Shan was out having some drinks with some coworkers, they got assaulted by a drunk while alone at their car. In the commotion, Shan strangled the man to death. It was in self defense, but they were overwhelmed with the fact that they killed another person. They felt as though they were in a haze as they stuffed the man in to the car and took the body home once more. They didn't waste time this go around with disposing of the body but while in the process they had that persistent thought once more. It couldn't hurt just to try out the techniques they had learned on dead animals. And so they attempted to peel the skin, scrap the fat and put it in the drying solution. Only a piece, just the hand. This was only to push back her thoughts, nothing more. They discarded the rest of the body the same as before.
As the time came to stuff and seal the hand, they noticed. It didn't work. The skin drastically discolored and stretched. Shan was infuriated. Disappointed by the outcome but not wanting to do kill again they go to grave robbing. But the bodies weren't fresh enough.
---
Their secret life as a serial killer began. And lasted a while, until they eventually were approached by a man named Rowan Phillips. He seemed odd and almost other worldly. He knew what they had been up to, he'd seen them kill and what they were doing with the bodies. He assured them that he wasn't police and on the contrary he wanted to help. Shannon was turned that night.
With the powers Rowan had given them it became easier to do their work. Shan leaned deeper in to their obsession. It was short-lived, as their neighbors had been complaining about the constant smell coming from Shan's house. The police were eventually called and the site they found was horrific, monstrous even. Shannon had claimed more victims. All of them in various levels of mutilation. Some of it not even humanly possible. The officers found Shan in the house, and out of fear Shan attacked them. They knew they could win. But some of them escaped. And with that Shan came very close to breaking the masquerade. But someone covered it up. Someone took care of the remaining witnesses and cleared it all up for them. Word spread, and Shan became a pariah amongst their peers, and even their sire. They were a laughing stock, a failure.
They had to leave town now for multiple reasons. That's when they went to crin city, change their name, use their power to change their appearance, and tried to start a new unlife. But the kindred that had helped them cover the whole mess up, was holding it over their head and still is. Milking it for all it's worth.
